Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo (the phone everyone called the "iPhone Fold"), went on sale on 23 October 2026. ProPakistani's headline summed up the local reaction: it officially costs more than a used car in Pakistan.
This post gives the real prices in Pakistan and the UAE as of late October 2026, explains why they differ so much between sellers, and works through the question every Pakistani buyer asks: is it cheaper to buy in Dubai and pay the PTA tax?
The short version

iPhone Duo price in Pakistan

Both are listed as PTA-approved. Mercantile's sets come with a one-year official Apple warranty. Telemart's listing said deliveries were expected in late November, and ProPakistani warned prices could rise as stock tightened.
Why the gap? Mercantile is an official channel with a fixed price list. Retailers source stock where they can while global supply is short, and price for scarcity. Always confirm the warranty terms in writing before paying.
iPhone Duo non-PTA price in Pakistan
Non-PTA sets are cheaper because the PTA registration tax has not been paid, but the phone will stop working on Pakistani networks after the grace period unless you pay it. Listings in late October started from about Rs 554,000 to Rs 730,000 for 256GB depending on the seller and condition. Remember that the Duo is eSIM only, so check that your operator supports eSIM activation on a non-PTA set before you buy.
iPhone Duo price in the UAE
Apple's UAE store lists the iPhone Duo at AED 8,499 for 256GB, including 5% VAT. That is about $2,314 at the pegged rate of 3.6725 dirhams to the dollar, a little over the US price because US prices exclude sales tax.

Is it cheaper to buy the iPhone Duo in Dubai?
Possibly, but not by as much as it looks, and the answer depends on a number nobody has yet.
- AED 8,499 is about Rs 641,000 at around Rs 277 to the dollar.
- Tourists can reclaim part of the UAE VAT at the airport through the Planet tax refund scheme, which brings the effective price down a little.
- Bringing it into Pakistan, you must register it with PTA and pay the applicable tax. Because the Duo's customs value had not been officially set, the tax is unknown. Estimates online assume something like the PTA tax on other top-end iPhones.
The rule of thumb: if the official PTA tax ends up below the gap between Rs 641,000 and the local PTA-approved price (about Rs 259,000 against Mercantile's 256GB price), Dubai wins. If not, the local set with an official warranty is better value. Wait for the FBR valuation before you assume either way, and remember that a Dubai set's warranty is valid internationally only for Apple-authorised repairs, which are limited in Pakistan.

For Pakistan specifically, two things stand out. First, eSIM only on the Duo: check that your operator supports it and keep in mind the PTA registration route. Second, resale value: iPhones have historically held their value better in Pakistan's second-hand market than Android flagships, which narrows the real cost difference over two years. Samsung's local pricing and warranty network are more established, which counts for a first-generation foldable that may need a screen repair.
Should you buy the iPhone Duo in Pakistan now?
For most people, not yet. Stock is scarce, retail mark-ups are high, the PTA tax is unclear, and the second-generation model will almost certainly be better and cheaper relative to its specification. If you want it now, buy through an authorised channel with a written warranty, and pay by a method that gives you recourse, not a cash transfer to a social media seller.
